Christchurch

On the south coast of England is Christchurch (/ˈkraɪstʃɜːrtʃ/). The railways arrival made Christchurch accessible to visitors that were potential, but Mudeford and Christchurch, had been enjoying a tourist trade that was modest since King George III in the 1790s had patronised the town. A government district which has borough status is Christchurch.

With part of Ringwood and Fordingbridge Rural District in 1974, the district was formed by the Municipal Borough of Christchurch. For elections to the European Parliament, Christchurch is part of the constituency. It lies within Hampshire, Christchurch is the most easterly coastal town of the administrative county of Dorset.

Flowing directly into Christchurch Harbour, the centre lies between the rivers Avon and Stour. On South Western Main Line from London Waterloo to Weymouth is Christchurch railway station. Of a motte and bailey construction, the Christchurch Castle that is Grade I listed is of origin that is Norman. At MEE Establishment at Christchurch Barracks, Donald Bailey developed the Bailey bridge between 1941 and 1942.

Due to access to neighbouring towns and the difficult harbour entrance which acted as a barrier to customs cutters, smuggling during the centuries of 18th and 19th was one of Christchurch's industries that was most lucrative. Ye Olde George Inne, once a coach house, and the Ship Inn which has the oldest licence in Christchurch include Grade II listed public houses that High Street contains. Infant schools, junior schools, primary schools (combined infant and junior) and secondary schools are schools that Christchurch has.

Protected by Mudeford Spit which has fine sandy beach on both sides of a walkway lined with beach huts, Christchurch Harbour contains areas of salt marsh. A mixture of restaurants, houses that were traditional, historic buildings, antiquated cottages, and coffee shops, is what Christchurch's centre encompasses. Christchurch against an invasion was fortified: the construction of tank traps in and around the town, gun emplacements, and pillboxes, made Christchurch an "island that was anti-tank", with Cherbourg's German 6th Army in 1940.

Located a short distance to the south of the Priory on Christchurch Quay, Place Mill is a Grade II* listed watermill. Christchurch Cricket Club who have teams in the Saturday and Sunday Dorset Leagues, is in Hurn Bridge. Christchurch Bowling Club, on the green adjacent to the castle ruins, is a lawn bowling club that Christchurch has.
